Steampunk is a relatively new term which essentially refers to turn of the century (19th-2oth century) futuristic. The embodiment of this style are the works of Jules Verne. The term really has to do with steam-powered machines , watch-gear driven mechanica, and early version of chemistry. When scientists like those portrayed in Frankenstein harnessed new technologies with the natural powers of the Earth in order to achieve wonderful scientific results. The supposed creators of such devices and machines educated and sophisticated gentleman, who while a bit mad perhaps, never forgot the necessity of beauty and art in their creations.

Schwarzenegger: No one said looking good would come cheap. Here the Schwarzenegger watch is the bargain of the two. The pictured rose gold Schwarzenegger watch retails for just over ,000. For that money, you could barely buy a Hummer H2, and not even close to Schwarzenegger's preferred vehicle, the Hummer H1.

Like the Gran Prix de Monaco Historique, the Speed Black Chronograph embodies a Valjoux 7750 movement and is a certified Chronometer. Right now, the Speed Black Chronograph is part of a 1000 piece limited edition, and I imagine they will go fact. The watch also has my favorite feature of any Mille Miglia watch, that being the tire tread strap. Chopard still does this the best, using a pattern taken from 1960's Dunlop racing tires (obviously not ultra-slicks). Such straps just look superbly cool sitting on your wrist. Always a good idea. Figure prices to be a bit higher, perhaps in the 00 - 00 range.

Olga is a collector and scours the world for bits and pieces to add on her art. From sifting through yard sales, purchasing bulk parts online, to dissembling aging machines, she finds little treasures that find perfect places in her art. Likewise, you'll notice this in her art, and can be assured each is an amalgamation of machinery from yesterday and today.

It is this sub 00 watch segment which is mostly ignored. There are likely some reasons for this, but I think it is a negative omission that could easily be addressed. In the US, most watches sold, by far, are under 00. There is no good resource for information on what is out there, and new items from manufactures. Aside from online forums, such as the Poor Man's Watch Forum, there is little out there on the strongest segment of the US market. Hopefully this will change in time.

Certina represents one of the Swatch Group's lower priced brands, but retains a high value due to the level of quality.

This direction has allowed Marcello C to take a lead role as one of the fastest growing small watch companies. Saving money on not having to test designs, they focus on quality. Let others make the mistakes and produce what the consumer clearly wants. Perusing the Marcello C collection, you will see all familiar faces. The Tridente and Nettuno models are all Rolex Submariner clones with their own twist. Their aviator watches take designs from classic watches of the past from IWC, Glashutte, and countless others who have implemented such designs. At this point, Marcello C is putting its own twist on a theme, rather than copying anything. This complaint aside, there is little to complain about a Marcello C watch, as is clear from the reviews online.

Actually, new watch making schools are popping up all the time due to this increasing need. There are even some US based schools. Most however are located in Europe and I am sure parts of Asia. School programs are generally intensive, but because the market is rich right now, it is an attractive prospect for those interested in the field. The most talented watch makers often start are large companies, and often end up making their own watches, and own brands. A pretty nice, and attainable goal. All in all, this is actually a pretty sober advertisement given some of the things American actors are know for advertising in Japan. But you can go to YouTube for further examples.

NAME:

I bring this all up to display not only a frustrating set of circumstances, but a triumph of profit forward - consumer backward thinking. I am not so naive as to misunderstand the rationale of the Apple executives sitting in their buttonless offices with finger prints everywhere. No, it is more the attitude of the consumer which distresses me. No matter how oppressive Apple gets, people keep purchasing their product; which is not even that good. Apple makes no secrets that the iPod exists to lock people into using iTunes. Of course the iPhone would function the same way. It boggles my mind why people keep putting up with this. Apple, the one time underdog, is now at the forefront of monopolistic behavior. As such, they have consistently been sued in Europe with little remorse. In fact, then simply said they would not sell iTunes music in various countries that be forced to allow other MP3 players to access the music files. Another example is that Apple has been forced to unlock iPhones in France. Kudos to the French for not putting up with them. Apple needs to learn that the very behavior it tried to subvert, it is not the prime purveyor of.

Tag Heuer Meridiist Mobile Phone Is Official: Costs More Than Your Tag Watch, Watch Out Vertu Luxury Items
Think of how ubiquitous mobile phones are. First of all, for those who do not know we call them mobile phones now, not cellular phone, because they no longer work via interaction with cellular towers. Because mobile phones today use a digital and not analog signal, the term "cell phone" is not correct any longer. I just wanted to make that clear in case you thought the European lingo was rubbing off on me (as mobile phones there are often called, my "mobile"). Returning from our tangent, the ubiquity of mobile phones have taken them from being a mere tool to an accessory. Like a watch (which also started) as a tool, having this required peripheral means you have many options about which to own. Because of this, the status conscious seek ever more interesting mobile devices with to impress and feel good about owning. That is the idea behind the Vertu, and the Meridiist. The problem however is that unlike a watch, a mobile phone is a piece of constantly evolving technology. Constantly doing more, using new formats, and being exposed to increased usage demands. Most people don't keep a phone for more that two years, and because of that, luxury phones are a hard sell for most. The majority of us gawk at spending 0 on a phone, so what will the sticker shock be like at 00? In response to this, at least Vertu promises a concierge service with the phone, which does... well I am not sure. Some sort of quasi-outsourced secretary I imagine. Tag Heuer has made no mention of a similar service, but attempts to away would-be buyers on the current technical specifications of the Meridiist line.

Most people cannot do much on their own to customize the watches they own. Changing the hands, or colors are beyond our ability both in expertise and the tools we have available. This can create a problem for the creative among us who really want to make watches "our own." One effective outlet for creativity however, is placing a new bracelet or strap (band) on your watch. You must first understand that this does not work with every watch. Some watches or watch makers as a whole, have special proprietary watch strap or bracelet connections that won't allow for a universal connection, and other watches have straps that won't come off at all. However, most watches give you the ability to remove and change the strap or bracelet. If you are unsure how to do any of the following, you can always buy a fitting strap or bracelet yourself and take it to a watch repair person or store that can do the work for you cheaply. You will usually save a lot of money and have more selection by purchasing the replacement straps or bracelets yourself rather than relying on what a watch repair or store has in stock.

Click here to see a discussion thread regarding the issue of Timezone engaging in indiscriminate banning. There the sentiment seems to fall on Timezone.com exclusively catering to the needs of its advertisers. Users says something negative about an advertiser's product? Ban them. Try to sell something that competes with an advertiser? Ban them. Try to mention your own a personal website that might compete with Timezone in some way? Ban them. Here the good people at Watchreport.com comment on similar situations at Timezone.com. While being diplomatic, it is obvious that Timezone.com engages in behavior most other watch forums would clearly not tolerate. Still more, this ex-Timezone.com member was dismayed with his "particularly nasty" Timezone.com experience. Scroll down the site in the link to see the discussion. These are but some of the many negative experiences people have had with Timezone.com that can be read about online.

The best part about the Mido Jubilee is the pricing. WIth an MSRP of about ,200 (depending on whether you opt for the leather strap of steel bracelet), the street price is likely to be sub ,000 for a nicely made, and competent watch. You'd be surprised the amount of people that are looking for simplicity and legibility in a watch, but not something ugly. The Mido Jubilee certainly fits this role.

Marcello C watches are manufactured in German using mainly swiss parts and ETA movements. Marcello C is able to pick and choose among the best parts makers, and then hand assembles movements and watches by their master watch mechanics and craftsmen. People really cannot say enough good things about Marcello C. Reviews of Marcello C watches on the internet are unanimous regarding consumer satisfaction with the product. And at under 0, their entry level Nettuno 3 model leads the pack in terms of quality and reliability for the price. Even their slightly more expensive models are an amazing value.

Red & Black German Racing Watch: Best Hued Temption Formula Rally Chronograph Available Sales & Auctions Red & Black German Racing Watch: Best Hued Temption Formula Rally Chronograph Available Sales & Auctions I admit to loving this watch. It just exudes cool to me, but in a really understated way. This to me is a non-flamboyant, flamboyant watch. I've mentioned Temption Formula (and Classic) Rally watches before, but in my opinion this version is the nicest. Other models have yellow or blue trim coloring as opposed to the red in this watch. To me, the red contrasts the best with the black PVD case and dial, not to mention being the most powerful looking.

You will also notice the circle in the lower portion of the watch face. This is a moon phase indicator which indicates the phases of the moon and are also connected to the calendar functions. Other than potentially indicating the available light at night, it also helps when calculating tide strength, along with other information related to the phase of the moon.

The Diavolo is a large watch, but comfortably so at 44mm. I find that small chronograph watches are just too hard to read to be useful. This is a good blend of size and comfort, even for my relatively small wrist. The watch is secured by a rubber strap with one of the best clasps I have ever had the pleasure of using. Not only does the clasp look awesome (really), but it is a pleasure to use as well. Press the buttons on the side of the clasp to release the buckle (I feel as though I sound like the safety instructions on an airplane), and you see this well engineered mechanism open before your eyes. What makes it so impressive, is the tight connection of the parts. The metal fits so closely together, it is impressive to see how easily it opens and closes with a reassuring "click." The clasp can be operated with one hand, in the dark, or with gloves. For its heft, it is not particularly large on the wrist. The only thing I would add to the clasp is a proud Marcello C. logo, which is curiously absent. However, this lack of logo on the clasp is temporary, and Marcello C. with add a logo on the second run of Diavolo watches. What this means to the collector is that the first fun Diavolo watches have great potential to be sought after collector's items.

The first thing you will notice about the watch is the asymmetric positioning of the dial, and the large candy colored crown and pushers. It takes a while for this to sink in, realizing this is not something you are used to, but can come to appreciate, even prefer. The large yellow, blue, and red balls immediately contrast with the industrial looking angles and curves of the rest of the watch which are in black anodized aluminum. The original also used a black anodized aluminum case. The result is a construction which is light with a good texture, and does not appear at all cheap. Build quality is good, and pushers are solidly in place. In fact, the pushers are one of the best features of the watch. Not only do they charm you with their colorful appearance, but they are wonderfully ergonomic. Anyone who has a qualm with having large balls on your watch will immediately dismiss such issues once they are able to operate the watch using them. Color wise, they are a bit lighter than I would like. I personally would have preferred a deeper yellow, blue, and red, but this is a personal preference. Tallon's genius really comes through when you can immediately appreciate the aesthetic and functional benefits of the ball pushers and crown the first moment you use them.

The past few years have seen steady growth in the diameter of men's watches. In the 1950s, a dress watch was expected to be slim and small, the normal size being somewhere between 32 and 35mm wide. These days, anything less than 38mm is considered dainty, and even 50mm and beyond isn't unheard of.

From a design standpoint, the Nomos watches are pure functional minimalism with Bauhaus inspiration. Pictures above is the new Nomos Tangente watches which are manual watches with an in house movement. The color combinations and symmetry are next to perfect. Other models are similar and Nomos also makes in-house automatic movements as mentioned above. Nomos watches can be appreciated for their simple Bauhaus designs, but the real appreciation comes in knowing Nomos watches contain house-made movements are are in the inexpensive 00 range. Worlds apart form other in-house movement watch makers. nomos-glashutte.com

The Swatch Irony Body and Soul on WatchReport.com

Going back to the Diavolo watch case, there are other less noticeable, but impressive elements that would only become apparent if they did not exist. The lugs are slightly curved as to conform to the wrist, while the entire case has no sharp or uncomfortable edges. Despite this, the case retains a well constructed,, angular and crisp look. The sides of the case feature a very sporty matte finish, that immediately turns into a mirrored polish on other surfaces. This visually extends the size of the face while amplifying the shape and curvature. Together these features make for a good-looking comfortable watch, and you'd really only notice them if they did not exist. For example, you don't complain about a comfortable watch, it only becomes an issue when sharp edges dig into your arm. Comfort is just never going to be an issue with the Diavolo in my opinion, as it is ergonomically well designed.
